At the inaugural Best Friends Forever Festival, a 3-day emo/post-hardcore/indie rock festival, in Las Vegas, NV, I made the conscientious decision to break away from the stereotypical emo kid uniform (i.e., black Converse, skinny jeans, and a band t-shirt).

I wore this green plaid swing dress by Modcloth with satin-y Peter Pan collar and slimming belt instead. The green and mustard plaid was perfect for October – even in the desert – and was becoming against my skin tone. Paired with black Kate Spade ballet flats and Tom Ford cat-eye glasses, this dress radiates modern vintage sophistication for the frugal fashionista.
